Officials said they were going to move the dates to try and avoid the mid-winter wild weather with both events now to be scheduled for the Queen’s Birthday long weekend June 7-10 in 2019.
A new format tournament will also include yellowfin tuna.
Good flathead are on the chew but it is a costly battle north of Bournda due to ravenous chinamen leatherjacket. Further south good flathead can be found at 20 fathoms off Tura Headland, Tura Beach Golf Course and Short Point.
Weather permitting snapper and morwong are about the local reefs, all the way from White Rock to Boyds Tower off Eden.
With the moon filling good gummy shark should again be on the prowl! Try the reef edges near Haycock.
Reports are Haycock beach is firing for salmon which bodes well for the “salmon Sunday” on July 29.
There are prizes to be won and a social barbecue. Australian salmon remain patchy off the beaches. Try Tura and Main Beaches as well as Tura and Short Point Headlands. Salmon are attracted to gang hooked pilchards and surf poppers. Spinning can also bring good rewards. Best time is early morning or at dusk when good size tailor come onto the bite.
The Pambula River Mouth now is a good time to troll and spin for salmon.
In the Merimbula front lake the run-in from the sea is good for trevally and bream over the shallows. Nippers without a sinker or soft plastics will get results. Due to the cooler water dusky flathead have slowed down in the Merimbula Back lake However there remain lots of chopper tailor plus some great bream and occasional trevally.
All quiet at the Merimbula Wharf – mainly due to the strong SW and SE winds though a few quite good calamari squid have been landed. Reports from the Bega River, which remains closed, include some large Bream now about the “wall’ area just upstream from the launching ramp at Mogareeka. At Pambula; bream and tailor remain on the bite.
The club is open every Friday evening from 6.30 pm. This Friday will include a presentation on lure fishing for Australian salmon by Jim Clarke Member and UAE Lecturer. Visitors are very welcome.
Head along for the fishing report, ambience and competitive bar prices. Darragh Reynolds is your scheduled host.
