The News Weekly had received calls from residents about waiting times at the roadworks but council said conditions were difficult due to recent rain. A council spokesman said the northbound lane of Sapphire Coast Drive was in very poor condition following the rain at the end of June.
“Contractors on site attempted repairs but due to high volumes of traffic and unavailability of dry material, the road conditions worsened,” the spokesman said.
“Repairs commenced Monday (July 2) at 7am, with the contractor removing the saturated gravel material along the northbound lane,” he added.
The asphalt surfacing of the road is planned to commence on July 16 and be completed by July 20, the spokesman said.
