Five inaugural members cut the birthday cake, and many members and the Wobbles ukulele band dressed in gardening or garden party clothing. Guest speakers were Jodie Videau the waste control officer from the Bega Valley Shire Council, and Margaret Sirl of ABC and local nursery fame.
A surprise visit was made by Australia's first gardener Lady Macquarie (member Meg Ward), who gave a presentation about her previous home in Scotland, Lady Macquaries Chair and Government House in Sydney, Parramatta and Windsor. Merimbula Garden Club thanks all the donors who supplied raffle prizes and our plant and floral decorations, the 80 gardeners who attended and the RSL.
Day VIEW Club
Fun and games is the theme of Merimbula Day VIEW Club’s next meeting on Friday, June 15 and visitors are welcome to join president Danielle and members in the Lantern Room at Merimbula RSL Club at 11.30am for a 12 noon lunch. Ring Iris Ballard on 0448840752 by Wednesday, June 13 to book.
Last month’s brunch at the Settlers’ Cottage and Diner, South Pambula was most enjoyable. The June brunch will be held at the same venue at 11.30am. Ring Helen Cook on 0431142770 to attend. Members, don’t forget our ‘Make it Bake it Sew it Grow it’ table at the July meeting.
VIEW is passionate and committed to the work of The Smith Family and in the last year the work of The Smith Family has reached more than 151,000 disadvantaged children and family members in 94 communities across Australia. However with more than 1.1 million young Australians living below the poverty line more work needs to be done to support these young people. If you’re interested in finding out more please come along to one of our meetings.
CWA
As a change of pace from our last meeting which was a visit to the Bega Valley Regional Gallery to see the exquisite exhibition, ‘Embellish’, Costume in the art of Hilda Rix Nicholas, Joley Vidau from Bega Valley Shire Council will be our guest speaker to talk about the new FOGO bins. Pambula-Merimbula CWA’s next meeting is Friday, June 15 at 9.30am at the CWA Hall, Pambula. All members and friends are welcome and bring along your queries about household waste.
As our 80th Birthday is coming, we are already making preparations for this occasion to be held on Wednesday, August 8. There will be more details later. Our next coffee morning will be at Oaklands on Friday, June 22 at 10.30am.
Evening VIEW Club
Jazz musician Margie Fullerton was the guest speaker for Merimbula Evening VIEW Club’s June dinner meeting.
Members decorated the room and dressed in the Jazz Festival 2018 colours of orange, green and yellow, and enjoyed hearing of Margie's life story of her 26 years of playing with her band at the Merimbula Jazz Festival every June.
Margie and her husband with fellow musicians, played most weekends at venues in Victoria as well as on the radio, giving them the opportunity to meet many well known jazz musicians and radio/TV personalities before they retired to the Merimbula area.
