20th birthday, jazz and art celebrated by community groups

Garden Club

Merimbula and District Garden Club members celebrated their 20th anniversay, with a garden party at the Merimbula RSL Club.

Five inaugural members cut the birthday cake, and many members and the Wobbles ukulele band dressed in gardening or garden party clothing. Guest speakers were Jodie Videau the waste control officer from the Bega Valley Shire Council, and Margaret Sirl of ABC and local nursery fame.

A surprise visit was made by Australia's first gardener Lady Macquarie (member Meg Ward), who gave a presentation about her previous home in Scotland, Lady Macquaries Chair and Government House in Sydney, Parramatta and Windsor. Merimbula Garden Club thanks all the donors who supplied raffle prizes and our plant and floral decorations, the 80 gardeners who attended and the RSL.

Jazz musician Margie Fullerton was the guest speaker for Merimbula Evening VIEW Club’s June dinner meeting.

Members  decorated the room and dressed in the Jazz Festival 2018 colours of orange, green and yellow, and enjoyed hearing of Margie's life story of her 26 years of playing with her band at the Merimbula Jazz Festival every June.
