As a result, the car needed to be partially dismantled in order to rescue it.
Specialised Automotive Bega’s owner Murray McCloy said last week he received a call from a customer saying their female python had gotten loose, which was over a metre long.
“His daughter wanted to take it to school and it got out of the bag they were carrying it in!” he said.
The “very expensive” snake managed to get into the car’s dashboard, but when Mr McCloy found it behind the speedo cluster and tried to grab hold of it, the python started to move into another part of the car and he could not pull it out without injuring it.
After that it travelled along the right hand side window and up into the roof hood lining.
But this story does have a happy ending, as Mr McCloy was able to pull down the hood lining and found it laying against the roof getting the warmth of the sun.
He said it was calm once removed from the car.
“It just sat there on the pavement while we put the car back together,” he said.
“Its owner wanted to give it a break before putting it back into its bag.”
In the end the operation took an hour-and-a-half after putting the car back together and the python was taken to the vet and was cleared of any injuries – there was also no damage done to the car.
While Mr McCloy has had to pull rats out of vehicles before, it was the first time he has rescued a snake from one.
“When I went into work on the Monday morning I didn’t think I’d be doing that,” he said.
“It’s one of the weirdest things I’ve ever done!”
