She had no lump or symptoms and no one in her family had suffered from breast cancer.
Since her diagnosis in February, Lyn has had two lymph nodes removed and is having chemotherapy at the South East Regional Hospital (SERH).
“It was the last thing I ever thought of because no one in the family had ever had any cancer. I was lucky it was found and my outlook is good. The cure rate is over 90 per cent now but the aim is by 2030 to have no more deaths from breast cancer,” Lyn said.
To raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation and its work, Lyn is promoting Go Pink week and is supported by Boardwalk Cafe owner Sue Wilkie, and Made by U fitness centre, Merimbula. Starting on Monday, June 11 and for a donation, anyone can write a message of hope, support or remembrance on pink flowers, for those who have been or are currently affected by breast cancer. The flowers will be on display at the Boardwalk Cafe and will culminate in a morning tea on Monday, June 18 at 10am.
“Basically we’re paying it forward so that our children and grandchildren don’t need to go through this.”
Lyn had her operation at SERH and also receives chemotherapy there. “It means that when you’re feeling sick from the effects, you don’t have far to come home. I also want to thank the oncology nurses there because they make a difference. We’re very fortunate to have the Jane McGrath breast care nurse at Bega too,” she said.
Join Lyn on June 18, 10am at the Boardwalk Cafe and wear something pink.
