A man is in custody after a woman died and two men were stabbed on the far south coast this afternoon.
An extensive search began about 3.30pm Friday, after a man and a woman were stabbed at a home in East Street, Bega.
The woman died and the man, who was airlifted to a Sydney hospital, remains critically ill.
A second man was struck with a hammer during the carjacking of a vehicle on the Sapphire Coast Drive in Bournda. He, too,was taken to a Sydney hospital and remains in a critical condition.
About 8.20pm, a 20-year-old man was arrested by specialist police near Sapphire Coast Drive, Bournda. He was taken to Bega Police Station and inquiries are continuing.
The ages of the deceased and injured parties are not available right now.

Police report the alleged offender is now in custody. More on this as it comes to hand.

A police operation is continuing on the Far South Coast after a woman and two men were seriously injured.
About 3.30pm Friday, June 1, a man attended a home at Bega and allegedly stabbed a man and woman.
Following the incident, the man allegedly carjacked a vehicle on Sapphire Coast Drive. The male driver was seriously assaulted.
South Coast Police District officers responded and are conducting a search for the man.
Residents on the Sapphire Coast Drive between the suburbs of Bournda and Kalaru are urged to be vigilant and remain inside their homes.
The man is believed to be armed with a knife and is wearing khaki pants and a black jumper with red vertical stripes.
Anyone who sees the man is urged not to approach him but to contact Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Police are still searching for the man, with additional police resources and Polair to join the search.

A section of East St, Bega, has been taped off by police after what’s believed to be a serious incident at a residential home there.
There are also police roadblocks and diversions on Sapphire Coast Drive and in the area between Bournda and Kalaru where a police operation is currently underway, searching for a man believed to be armed with a knife and hammer.
A helicopter is flying over the area as well.
It’s understood the incidents are related.
Members of the public along Sapphire Coast Drive, between Bournda and Kalaru, are urged to be vigilant and avoid the area.
Further information will be provided as the operation continues.

Police are currently searching for a man, aged in his 30s, believed to be armed with a knife and a hammer.
The search began on Friday afternoon, June 1, with police asking the media and readers to help spread the information.
Bega detectives describe the man as wearing khaki pants and a black jacket with a horizontal red stripe across the front.
He has been seen in the vicinity of Sapphire Coast Drive in the Bournda/Tura area.
If you see this man, do not approach him and immediately call Triple-0 (000).
Residents in these areas are also asked to lock all windows and doors and secure all keys to any motor vehicles.
