Contesting the Gippsland Lakes Paddle Challenge, the Pambula lifesavers featured prominently in the placings following the event hosted by Lakes Entrance Surf Life Saving Club recently.
Run over two courses of 13km and 27km, seven paddlers from Pambula took to the water.
In the Paynesville 27 km race, great down-wind conditions saw Kim O’Halloran place first in the female over 40 ski, while Liam O’Neil placed first place in the open SLSA ski division and Eden’s Mark Spink finished third in the over 40 ocean ski category.
Gavin Granger finished second in the over 50 ocean ski category and fourth overall across all divisions with a time of two hours and 21 minutes for the 27 km distance.
Jamie Lynn finished a creditable second in the open ocean ski, while Paul Williams finished just outside the placings with a great paddle in the ocean ski category.
In the 13 km Metung to Lakes Entrance event, Greg Shaw finished first in the over 60 ocean ski with Rick Farrell also placing first in the over 60 SLSA ski category.
Officials from the club commended the paddlers and said it was a credit to the year-round efforts of lifesavers, who are keeping fit ahead of another busy summer.
These kind of paddling events are a great test of speed and endurance with the Pambula lifesavers in peak condition, especially on the back of the George Bass marathon.
