The Monohull Pointscore was the most hotly contested, with 19 boats racing in the series. Rob and Sian Morton won an impressive 12 of the 14 races to win the series, retaining their crown as club champions.
Terry Kirby came second, just two points ahead of his mate and main rival, Neil Fisher.
The Multihull pointscore included five entrants, though in many of the races Terry Ubrihien was the sole entry. He won the series convincingly, with seven race wins.
The Weta trimaran of Dennis Stanton and Suellen Obrien scored second, ahead of the Paper Tiger of Tony Hastings.
The Handicap-start Series rewards sailors who attend regularly, and improve throughout the season. The family of Josh, Jarrah and Cassia Dorrough won, by winning two of the races and consistently finishing near the front of the field.
Sian Morton’s Sabre finished second. Her efforts here as skipper, and winning the club championship as crew, also earned her the title of Best Female Sailor.
Third in the Handicap Series was Darren Lydiard, who also scored the joke title of “most boats sailed in one season”, as he contested races on catamaran, trailer-sailor and several different dinghies.
The most popular boat at the club is the Sabre, who have their own series within the pointscore races. Results are determined on a handicap system, won by Neil Fisher, ahead of Terry Kirby and Rodger Ubrihien.
Josh and Jarrah Dorrough won the club’s first-ever Sprint Series. This was a series of short 1-lap races that help develop starting and buoy-rounding skills. It’s popularity will see it held again next season.
The club’s Rising Star award for the most improved sailor went to Ava Petersen, who jumped an impressive twelve places up the result sheet from last year.
Best Junior Sailor was awarded to Luca Dorrough, who sailed as crew on the MG “Superfly” with Tony Hastings, and began skippering his own boat. The pair contested many regattas and brought home the NS14 Southern Traveller Series trophy to hand on the clubhouse wall.
Sandra Behrandt won an Encouragement Award.
The biggest prize of all was learning that the club has secured a $20,000 Community Building Partnerships grant from the State Government, which will be used to purchase a new rescue boat. The club thanks local member Andrew Constance for his support, and their Secretary Terry Kirby for his efforts.
