The Sydney Male Choir are certainly not your average choir. President Gary Withyman said it’s the first time the choir has travelled on tour to the Far South Coast and that residents should expect an eclectic mix.
“Most people see choirs and particularly men’s choirs as standing up there all wooden with stone faces singing hymns. But, we don’t do that – we move and bring life in to what we do,” he said.
The setlist will differ for both Merimbula and Bega performances, as the 35 choristers have thirty songs under their belt to pick from.
The audience can expect the exciting sounds of Billy Joel and the Beatles, Queen and Pink Floyd right through to Broadway musicals, spirituals and some traditional classical favourites.
Mr Withyman said “the tour is worth following.”

“We tour extensively, but we try and do a regional tour every year and do something different,” he said.
“We have had people follow us in the past. Somebody had heard us on tour in Inverell and then travelled to Armidale and then Tamworth just to watch us!”
Lucky for Far South Coast residents the distance to catch both shows is not far. The seven town tour of Southern NSW is destined to “bring joy through song.”
“What we see is that we enjoy singing, and if we see the audience enjoy the singing, then we reckon we have done our job,” Mr Withyman said.
The Sydney Male Choir has been operating continuously for over 105 years since 1913 and has since toured nationally and internationally at an array of prestigious events.
For an unforgettable, fun filled experience of musical harmonies that will transport and entertain you – make sure you get along to witness the talent!
The choir has arranged for the Bega concert to support the Tathra community through the Tathra Bushfire Appeal, held at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre at 2pm on Thursday, May 10. For admission, a cold coin donation is requested at the door.
Club Sapphire is to host the choir the following evening. Doors open 7pm. For tickets phone Club Sapphire reception on 6495 1306.
