Now in its seventh year, the Spiral Gallery wants to see their postcard art competition extend far beyond the Bega postcode.
The competition is open to everyone. Each artwork must be the size of a postcard, 105x148mm. Three dimensional works must be no more than 200mm high.
Joint curators Rachel Annabel and Reiko Healy encouraged artists to start planning their postcards ahead of the June 1 submission date and said the competition was a perfect event for emerging artists to gain exhibition experience.
“The only defining restriction is size,” Ms Annabel said.
“But that still leaves so much room for creativity and diversity, we’ve had fantastic range of work, using felt, recycled drinking straws, porcelain, ceramics – a lot is possible within a small space.”
Ms Healy said the competition was accessible to the whole community.
“Entry cost is cheap and there is no age limit, we have had work from four-year-olds right up to 90-year-olds,” she said.
“If people want their first experience showing their art or trying something new, this is the perfect way.”
A Plethora of Postcards exhibited around 540 entries last year and packed out for it’s opening night.
The curators are expecting even bigger numbers on this years opening night on Friday, June 22 from 5pm at Spiral Gallery.
This year’s competition will be judged by local artists Andy and Liz Doyle. A new category, iconic Australiana, is sponsored by Valleyart in Bega.
Entry costs $5 for adults, $2 for youth (12-24 years old) and $1 for juniors (under 12). Entrants may sell their artwork through the exhibition. For more details on entering, email spiralpostcards@gmail.com or call Spiral Gallery, 6492 5322.
