Members of the community and Club Sapphire staff prepared for those affected by the fires to spend the night although later were notified that their services were no longer required.
“In that time the community were fantastic, they brought donations and the staff helped put it all together with the volunteers,” Club Sapphire CEO Damien Foley said.
“Woodbine Park and Telopea Court donated mattresses and a lot of bedding as well as a range of individuals that turned up with kids clothes and other items as well.”

At 11pm, a call was received from the Emergency Evacuation Centre in Bega to notify Club Sapphire that they no longer needed to assist.
“We were ready for them to arrive at the Club then received a call from the emergency coordinator saying that things were under control and that people were being transported to families and friends homes,” Mr Foley said.
Overall, Mr Foley was very impressed with the response time of the community and the volunteers. The room remains set and the Club is on standby as they await further direction from the emergency coordinator.
