Over the last three months, students spent time putting Soul Train together.
Soul Train is a performance of 1960s soul music by the current Year 12 music class supported by the school performing ensemble.
The year 12 class have studied soul singers including Mavis Staples, Michael Jackson, Linda Lyndell and Smokey Robinson. In the process they have compiled a set of songs complete with choreography to perform.
Expect to hear hits like I’ll take you there, Heard it through the grapevine, Tracks of my tears and Land of a thousand dances as each student takes her turn to shine on the microphone.
“It’s been super fun learning to sing new songs and teach Mr Martin how to dance,” Rosie Mills said.
The feature singers are Rosie Mills, Ashlyn Fulton, Jasia Henry, Pelenise Ofati and Alice Wiebe who are backed by a 13 piece ensemble featuring saxophones, trumpet, piano, guitars, drum and bass.
“My favourite part of rehearsing the show has been learning the guitar riffs for the songs lover, lover and what a man,” guitarist Jeremy Koenigkamp said.
Drummer Jake Hansen said that “challenges have included learning new feels and the complicated endings.”
It is a show not to be missed and community members are invited to purchase tickets and come along for a night of satisfying soul music.
Eden High music teacher Sam Martin said that “the development of the show has been a fun process for the students with all learning new skills along the way.”
