The funding announcement was one of several made by Member for Bega Andrew Constance on Sunday as he attended the Bemboka Show.
The Stronger Country Communities Fund delivers local infrastructure to improve the quality of life of people living in regional NSW. Funding is provided to local projects such as parks, community halls, playgrounds and amenity blocks.
Mr Constance said other money heading into the Bega Valley Shire includes $225,000 for improvements to the Great South Coast Walk at Wallaga Lake; $163,000 for revitalising Bandara Children’s Services in Bega; $143,000 for a number of community hall kitchens upgrades through the shire; and $141,000 for upgrades to the Eden Log Cabin community space.
Bega Valley Shire Mayor Kristy McBain said the announcement totalling $974,677 was “great news for our communities” and “will afford council the opportunity to undertake some great projects that will benefit so many”.
“I would like to thank the staff who have worked tirelessly to put these project applications together and I thank our local member Andrew Constance who has been instrumental in seeing them funded,” Cr McBain said.
Mr Constance said the NSW government’s investment across the Bega Valley would provide residents with improved facilities the whole region can enjoy.
“This is fantastic news for residents right across the shire and I thank council for bringing these projects forward for consideration,” Mr Constance said.
“Our community has been calling out for upgrades to local facilities and I’m thrilled these can now be carried out.
“Stronger Country Communities funding is an investment in local infrastructure to improve the lives of residents and enhance the attractiveness of our region – this funding will help us do exactly that,” Mr Constance said.
The NSW government has committed $200million for applications to support local infrastructure projects that improve amenity and help sustain the social bonds at the heart of strong regional communities.
Round two is now open for applications from councils and will close at 5pm May 4.
