Recently a bunch of local runners went up to Lake Crackenback for the inaugural Snowies Ultra Trail Run Festival, each participating in one of the trail runs. Despite overnight rain and some lingering showers making the course wet and muddy in places our runners enjoyed the scenic trail.

In the 50km ultra marathon race, Steph Auston from Merimbula placed first overall in a great time of 4 hours, 22 minutes.
First male overall was Kyle Bourke, from Bega, only 5 minutes behind Steph. Steve Isles from Merimbula was fourth in his category, in another fast time. Loris Stefani, from Cooma, but a regular at Bega parkrun, also completed the 50km ultra - placing ninth in the 50+ age category.
The 21km half marathon trail run was started by a stockman cracking a whip while riding his part-brumby stock horse beside the runners. Terry Closter from Merimbula placed first in the 40-49 age category in his first ever trail race. Andy Gibbs was less than 3mins behind him to take out second place in the same category. Steve Scrivens, James Lukassen, Angus Lamb and Jody Collins all ran well and completed the half marathon. Some finished the run considerably more muddy and bloody than others. Paola Stefani from Cooma, another Bega parkrun regular, also completed the event.
Bega’s Chloe Bourke and Michelle van der Voort also ran good times in the 12km race. .
Two Merimbula runners in Lousie Louden and Tina Piccione also took on the Rollercoaster Run, completing a hilly and winding 21.5km course in Dandenong, Victoria.
