This will be the third visit for Arthur, who delighted audiences with his vocals in April last year when he appeared with the Andrew Dickeson Trio, and in March 2016 with the Peter Locke Trio.
This year he will be accompanied by the Peter Locke Quartet featuring Craig Scott on double bass, Michael Avenicos on reeds, Peter Locke on keyboard and Tim Geldens on drums.
Arthur was always a singer, even as a child. Listening intently to his father’s albums, he would perform songs on his grandmother’s piano, and even reinterpret the tunes, encouraged to perform and study by his parents from that early age.
He is now a singer and songwriter with many albums to his name, and a career of live performances that has spanned the planet. His latest tour will feature his new album Last Call.
Originally from Sydney, Arthur now calls the United States his home, living in Los Angeles, California and travelling all over the world to perform the music he loves. He has been praised internationally for his original smooth vocal style.
With a sophisticated style on stage, blended with humour and great charisma, Gregg Arthur is a rare entertainer. In his words: “My attitude is that I am on stage collaborating with the musicians. We are all working together, listening to each other to create a live performance that is exciting and in the moment”.
Accompanying Arthur, Peter Locke on piano is a highly respected professional performer with many years of experience, having played with the Daly Wilson Big Band, Brad Charles Big Band and John Morrison’s Swing City among others. Craig Scott has been one of Australia's leading bassists for over 30 years.
This will be a wonderful night for the Down South Jazz Club, especially all those Bennett/Sinatra fans, and an opportunity to see and hear these world class performers, rarely seen away from major city venues. Seats and table bookings can be made by ringing Aileen or Kevin on 6495 9853, by email on bookings@downsouthjazzclub.org.au, or will be available at the door.
