Joe Papalia is asking the community to nominate someone who can’t do their own lawn due to age, illness or injury so he can surprise them with his once-weekly free lawn service.
His first complimentary cut was for Barbara Suzani, but Mr Papalia said it didn’t feel like he was at work.
“She was so happy and excited we were there, you could really see the sparkle in her eye,” he said.
“There are so many people out there that are deserving of a service like this - maybe they give in some ways but are held back in others - so this is a little way to say thank you.”
Mr Papalia said the job was made more special when Ms Suzani thanked him with a tour of her flower garden, picking a flower for him to take home to his wife.
As a former Fire and Rescue volunteer, Mr Papalia said he has always felt a need to help others.
“I know there are people doing it tough around here, so I want to do what I can by helping them out with their lawn and taking at least one stress away,” he said.
“You don’t know their history, but you know you’ve made their day.”
So far, Mr Paplia has received two nominations, but is looking for more.
“I’m asking people to come forward and nominate those who could benefit from this,” he said.
“It’s something a little different I want to do for the community, but I need help to make it happen.”
The one-off free lawn service is available to people living on a residential block, anywhere along the Sapphire Coast.
