The first annual Poker Run organised by the local Cancer Research Advocate Bikers (CRABS) will see around 150 motorbikes rumble through the Far South Coast from Bermagui to Candelo, Pambula, Cobargo and back to Bermagui.

The Poker Run on Saturday, February 24 is a major fundraising event underpinning the CRABS support for Cancer Council and the Bega Valley cancer assistance group, Can Assist.
Riders will travel from point to point collecting a poker card at each stop. The group aims to raise vital funds for cancer research and support services for those affected by cancer.
In less than 10 years, the CRABS have raised more than $320,000 for cancer research and assistance.
“This will be another important event focusing the support of our members and the community on the great work done by Cancer Council and Can Assist,” CRAB president Graeme Struthers said.
The ride departs from the Bermagui Country Club at 10am on Saturday, February 24. The first stop will be at Candelo Hotel and then on to the Pambula Top Pub for lunch. It will continue to the Cobargo Hotel and then conclude at Bermagui Country Club later in the afternoon.
Community engagement coordinator from Cancer Council Southern Region, Kate Brett said she was excited to be at the inaugural CRABS Poker Run.
“The Cancer Research Advocate Bikers are a group of passionate men who really want to make a difference to the lives of those affected by cancer on the Far South Coast,” she said.
“The funds raised at their amazing events help Cancer Council provide services to those facing a cancer diagnosis, such as emotional, financial and legal support through our information and support service 13 11 20, transport to treatment and practical assistance.”
Cancer Council also funds world class research. In 2017 and directed over $60 million to cancer research across Australia.
“Research is the key to finding answers to our questions about cancer from what causes it, how it grows and how we can most effectively treat it. Additionally, research has also provided insights into cancer prevention and detection,” Ms Brett said.
Pre-registration for the poker run commences at Bermagui Country Club from 5.30pm on Friday, February 23 2018 and registration will continue from 8am on Saturday, February 24.
After the ride, Saturday night entertainment at the Bermagui Country Club will include well-known local band “Critical Fever” who will entertain what will doubtless be a tired but enthusiastic group of riders.
All money raised on the day will go to Cancel Council NSW and Can Assist.
