Heading into the last round of top grade, cricket promoter Charles Aggenbach has a bit of insight into the predicted finals matches.
In division one, Tathra and the defending premiers Merimbula have both booked a home semi-final.
“The only thing remaining here is to see who they will each play as it all comes down to Eden against South Eurobodalla in their final match this weekend,” Mr Aggenbach said.
“The winner will take third spot and face Merimbula, while the loser of the game will meet Tathra.”
In division two, Wolumla has enjoyed a dominant year and has locked in a home semi-final, but second place right through to fifth are still fluid and could be shaken up in the last matches.
“They could all be changing on what should be an entertaining weekend of cricket.” Mr Aggenbach explains.
“A win for Bega over South Euro earns then second place, but an unlikely loss could see them dropping down to third.
“The Eden Mallacoota combine could secure second if they claim a big win over Tuross and the Bulls lose their outing.
“However, Tuross could leapfrog them all if Bega does suffer a loss and they can beat Eden, but it will be a tough ask for Tuross heading for the toughest road trip from the top of the association to Eden.”
Meanwhile, a recent forfeit proved costly for the Kameruka Black Cockatoos who will not be able to catch up on points when they meet Tathra this weekend.
But Mr Aggenbach said the club would be looking to finish on a high as the round coincides with the annual pink stumps day and the special ladies game against Eden.
In the junior draw, the 14s head to their final round on the weekend and the Merimbula Knights have wrapped up a home semi berth.
Play for places two to four is wide open.
Bermagui will hold on to third place or fourth depending on their result against the Bega-Angledale Blue outfit – the Bulls are out of finals contention, but could give Bermagui a headache heading into the finals.
“Bega Yellow pushed Merimbula all the way last weekend and if that late-season form continues, they could upset Eden and change the ladder,” Mr Aggenbach said.
An Eden win gives them second place outright, but if Eden lose and Tuross scores the result, they’ll drop to third.
Tuross will play Pambula, where the Bluedogs are out of contention, but could sway the leaderboard – a win to Tuross will ensure them third place to likely face Eden, but a loss could pit them against Merimbula if Bermagui wins.
