The Bega Valley Beekeepers will be holding a one-day Beginning in Bees workshop on Saturday, March 10 and again on Sunday, March 11 from 9am to 2pm, in the grounds of the historic Old Bega Hospital, Newtown Road, Bega.

The workshop will be led by an experienced beekeeper, and will benefit anyone wishing to learn the basic skills and knowledge to get started in beekeeping.
This course helps you get started and tells you what equipment you need.

It includes a morning of theory covering safety, protective gear, essential equipment, life cycle of a bee, components of a hive and obtaining bees.
Participants are advised to wear light coloured clothing to cover legs and arms and a veiled hat if possible and are asked to refrain from using perfumes or strong smelling deodorants.
Lunch will be followed by the opening of a hive with a demonstration and guided hands on experience with bees.
The cost is $60 (club members $40) and includes morning tea (BYO lunch).
