Bega’s Yasmin Welsford alongside Eden young guns Jesse Mudaliar and Jamma Pollock formed part of the under 15 ACT girls team that secured an undefeated win in the Western Districts Junior Carnival.
A spokesman for the FSC Association said all three players had made “extremely valuable contributions” across the matches that saw the ACT side secure a flawless result.
The trio proved quite handy with the bat with Jemma offering the second best runs for the team in two of four games, while Yasmin and Jesse shared in a number of maiden overs and a good series of wickets with the ball in hand.
Bermagui young gun Jade Allen enjoyed a strong start to a tournament as part of the under 15 NSW Metro side in the Australian championships.
She opened the tournament with a career best 5/33 against Queensland helping push the Metro team to a solid opening win.
At time of writing, the team had also conquered the Vic Country side, Tasmania, South Australia and the Western Australians.
The team had also locked in a first-innings result of 173 runs against the ACT/NSW Country side in the penultimate round.
And it’s not just been the girls showing up on the pitch with a couple of young lads also doing the region proud.
Zak Keogh recently represented ACT/Southern in the under 14 country championship at the Kookaburra Cup and was subsequently named in the Country Thunder Southern side for the under 14 state challenge.
Four country sides will clash with four Sydney teams over four days in Dubbo and Keogh’s outfit were on the field against the City Sixers East team on Monday.
Jack Allen has also been on duty as part of the ACT/Southern side in the under 16s Bradman Cup event in Bathurst.
His team finished fourth – going down to North Coastal in the finals play off after narrowly missing out on a finals berth.
Jack also competed as part of the Eastern Suburbs team in the under 16s Sydney Shield event, but his team was edged out of semi-final contention despite a solid effort.
The association spokesman said the exceptional efforts of juniors showed a bright future for local competition after the senior draw resumed over the weekend.
A win to Tathra over the Merimbula Knights on Saturday shores up their status at the top of the competition ladder, while the South Eurobodalla Pirates claimed a win over Eden to slink into third place.
Five rounds remain in the local competition and the leaderboard is wide open in first division play.
The competition will continue on Saturday with play to be held at three grounds from 1pm.
