Merimbula’s junior cricketers had arrived on a Saturday morning in December to a disappointing scene of destruction.
The synthetic grass pitch had been torn and pulled up by vandals, with beer bottles strewn about as well.
“Members of the club dug out the sides of the pitch so that the existing matting could be pulled up, we then had to grind off the old glue ready for council,” Ray Fisher from Merimbula Knights said.
“Council contractors then came in to lay the cover on the pitch.”
Repairs were completed by the Bega Valley Shire Council at a cost of over $5000.
A working bee among club members took place last night to fill in the edges ready for a game scheduled next weekend.
“After a bit of rain this January and not having any foot traffic, it is looking marvelous! Mr Fisher said.
“We just need a bit of grass to grow around the sides and it will be back to the way it was.”
