Inspector Anthony Moodie said other than a number of minor incidents of people being removed from licensed premises it was a relatively quiet night for police.
“The general view of myself and the teams working on New Year’s Eve in Merimbula and Eden was that the crowds were on their best behaviour and it was a quiet night in terms of our policing response,” Inspector Moodie said.
“It was great to see young people and young at heart celebrate into the new year without the alcohol fuelled-violence that can sometimes spoil a great night.”
Chris Nicholls at Merimbula Tourism said he had received plenty of positive feedback about the fireworks, but that he is determined to see a full event return for NYE 2018.
He admitted the “weather was against us a bit” and that it had been quieter than in previous years.
