The open men’s crew of Steven Craig, John Hozack, Gary Warburton, Ryan Gough, Nick Prenier, Neils Glahn-Berteslen, Andreas Prenier, Joel Irwin and Marty Drysdale (sweep) have been training since April for the seven day endurance event, which ends in Eden on January 6.
“Prior to this year, a couple of the guys had rowed together before and after I moved to the area, I suggested that we enter this years George Bass – an event I had competed in with Bulli previously,” Craig said.
“Chat about the event quickly turned in training up to five times a week, which included time in the boat, on the machine and conditioning.”
Craig, whose team trains in the Ulladulla harbour, near Kings Point or on the Shoalhaven River, is thoroughly looking forward to the event.
“I think the team are a little in the dark how hard the event is – you learn a lot about yourself during the four hours of racing each day for seven days,” Craig said.
“In saying that, it’s a great atmosphere travelling with all the teams down the coast for 200km.
“Our boys have done all the hard work and are now waiting for the fun part – the race – to start.”
Mollymook SLSC will be also represented by Anthony Ireland and Brandan Cowled, will compete in the ski marathon – an event that also includes Shoalhaven Heads’ David Schofield.
