Fallen tree at North Bendigo's Kalianna School traps boy, carer

A 10-YEAR-OLD boy will be airlifted to Melbourne with suspected pelvis injuries after being freed from under a fallen tree branch at a North Bendigo school.

The boy and his 61-year-old female carer were both injured when the branch fell from a tree inside Kalianna School, trapping the pair.

The woman will be taken to Bendigo hospital. No one else was hurt in the incident.

WATCH: Police speak to media at the scene

Emergency services were called to the school about 3pm on Friday afternoon and worked to free the pair.

The boy and his carer were stretchered from the scene.

Both received medical attention from paramedics.

Firefighters also attended, and State Emergency Service volunteers worked to manually remove the tree.

Police, the education department and arborists will now investigate the cause of the branch collapse.

Bendigo Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said the incident was likely a traumatic one for other students and parents.
