Far South Coast Local Area Command Chief Inspector Anthony Moodie said don’t think that because you live in small regional towns that you’ll be okay.
“If you leave your vehicle unlocked then at some stage your vehicle may be targeted,” Inspector Moodie said.
“Let your visitors to our beautiful south coast know that they need to lock their vehicles. Unfortunate but necessary.”
Between 2am and 3.20am on Friday, October 27, on Murray St, Moruya an unknown offender has entered an unlocked vehicle parked on the council strip. The offender has rummaged through the vehicle and removed a number of items from the glovebox including a small amount of coin.
A further two vehicles parked nearby, also believed to be unlocked were entered and again a small amount of coins were taken from the centre console of one vehicle and the other had been rummaged through but no property appears to be stolen.
The offender is then believed at some stage to have entered a driveway in Murray St where a vehicle was entered via what is again believed to be an unlocked door. Stolen from the vehicle was a laptop computer and two mobile phones.
About 2.45am a lady in Thomas St, Moruya saw a person shine a touch into her home window. She alerted police who attended shortly after. On arriving at the location police found the lady’s vehicle parked unlocked in the driveway. The vehicle had been entered and a number of things moved about the vehicle.
A further two vehicles in Evans St, Moruya were also entered during the early morning where it is believed the offender entered via unlocked driver’s doors and removed a Navman from the glovebox compartment in one vehicle and a wallet containing cash, cards and jewellery, coins from the console area and mobile/radio phone cords and chargers from the other vehicle.
An owner of another vehicle believed to be locked (as indicated by the owner) in Ryan Place, Moruya awoke Friday morning to find gym gear all over the front lawn and the owner’s driver’s door open. Items were pulled apart in the vehicle and a small amount of coins taken from the vehicle. There were no signs of forced entry.
“If anyone has any information regarding these incidents and have not spoken with police I would ask them to contact Moruya Police Station on 4474 2444,” Inspector Moodie said.
