Trophies proudly sponsored by Merimbula Jewellers.
Merimbula News Weekly, Bega District News and Eden Magnet are very happy to announce Bega Valley’s Best Car and Bike Photo Competition Winners.
This competition has run over the last four weeks and was open to residents of Bega Valley Shire and surrounding areas. Thanks to our judges Murray McCloy from Specialised Automotive and Glenn Cotter, community activist extraordinaire. Trophies proudly sponsored by Merimbula Jewellers.
WINNERS:
– Best Classic Car - Louise Yeoman's 1963 EJ Holden
Louise says, “As a family, we are all very excited to hear the news of our win. Our 1963 wagon is a classic example of an original EJ Holden from Australian motoring history. I think it pulls at the nostalgic heartstrings. People can relate to riding in one of these classics during their childhood, or recall their grandparents owning one. It still retains that old car smell, the old car sounds and it’s hard to beat that retro blue duco. These qualities are what attracted us to this 54 year old beauty which we purchased earlier this year.
– Best Performance Car – Jason Buttgereit's Subaru WRX
Jason took this photo a couple of weeks before the competition to try out his new iPhone 7 plus. He is, of course, very happy with the result!. The photo was taken at the Bega River Parkland. Jason’s car is a 2015 model and was purchased from Bega Valley Motors 3 years ago. When asked what he likes best about his care, Jason said “I just love the looks and performance of the WRX”.
– Best Tradies Work Horse - Billy Peters entry of Peter Legge’s Nissan Navara D40
Billy is an automotive glazier who works for Peter Legge, Blue Water Windscreens. The Nissan is owned by Peter and was purchased locally 5 years ago. The photo was taken on Brown Mountain working in the snow, something different, says Billy!" When asked what they like best about the ute, Billy said “it’s just really handy and goes anywhere”.
– Best B & S Ute – Billy Peters' air bagged 1986 hilux (lowlux)
Billy’s picture was taken next to the exact same model Hilux. Amazing the difference between the two vehicles. Billy has owned the car for 7 years and just loves that it is one of a kind, one in a million. He used to take it to B & S Balls but hasn’t done so for some time now. The car is an Australian version of the American low riders. It has an air bag system that allows the car to lift up and down. American versions have hydrolic lift but this is illegal in Australian, hence the air bag system.
– Vintage Class - Shane Sutton's Ford Victoria Coupe 1956
Shane’s car is as it was in the showroom in 1956. The car was restored in Texas and shipped to Australia 4 ½ years ago. Shane found that due to retiring he had more time and decided to start car collecting. He purchased the vehicle from the importer and the coupe is used to travel to Rock and Roll dances in New South Wales and Victoria.
- Best Sports Car – Chris Erickson's Photo of Adam Mitchell’s NC Mx-5 Touring
Adam Mitchell is the owner of the car and the photo was taken in Merimbula with the bridge crossing in the background. Adam has owned the car for 12 months. Chris works in the graphic design industry and his hobby is amateur photography.
– Best Golden Oldie - Jim Mckenna's Photo of a Rat Pan Head.
– Best Non-american Bike – Jim Mckenna's Photo of a Suzuki Boulevard
– Best American Bike – Jim Mckenna's Photo of a Harley Davidson Deluxe
Jim has taken out three classes in the Bike category and says he is always pleased to have one of his images placed or accepted in any photographic competition/exhibition. Jim has been an enthusiastic amature photographer since the early 1990s. Jim says “I photograph most things that interest me but mainly landscapes. Now that I have retired I can get out more often and pursue my love of fine art photography. I always try to create an image that makes the viewer think, how was that created? I want the viewer to look into the image and not just at it. In the creation of the three images I looked for mood, light, power and an unusual angle. (even if it means your wife disowns you).
– Best Adventure Bike - Grattan Smith's Triumph Tiger 800 XRT
Grattan has lived in the Bega Valley and worked at Bega Cheese for 20-years. He has been on the Board of Directors at Tulgeen Disability Services for over 3-years. Grattan says “The Triumph Tiger 800 is a great bike replacing my BMW R1100S (which is now for sale) due to its touring flexibility on-and-offroad, and comfort for two-up touring. My wife and I completed a 6,000km trip around Tassie and south-western Vic/SA in April. This photo was taken in the hinterland west of Mogo (as noted in the caption). I have been riding on-and-off since a teenager.”
– Best Farm Bike – Andreas Wall's CFMOTO X400 Quad Bike
Andrea says “ we bought the bike about 8 months age from Bega Mower Centre. The bike is just great on our small steep acreage, whether we are mowing, sowing ,spraying or just taking feed to the shed. It makes our life so much easier!. Our gorgeous Westie and best mate Boner loves it and is always on the back, he also thinks he is the best sheep dog around!”
