Over 500 people attended the Eden Fishermen’s Club Christmas in July Race Day which was organised in conjunction with a canned food drive for Oz Harvest. The fun day out also featured a Christmas lunch in which funds raised would go Eden’s much loved festive fair.
In total $240 was raised through the Christmas Lunch which was donated to Eden Chamber of Commerce president Jenny Robb earlier this week. Jess Ryan from the Turf Club said they are proud to support this fundraiser and give back to the Eden Community.
“We would like to thank everyone for the support on the day,” Ms Ryan said.

Is your garden safe?
Spring is here so now is the time to research whether your garden is safe for your pets. Many poisonous plants, if consumed, can have serious consequences for your pets.
For example the “Yesterday today and tomorrow plant” Brunsfelsia is a very dangerous plant for dogs (especially puppies) and if eaten, the plant, especially the fruit which comes after flowering, they may die. Liliums are toxic to cats especially, and all parts of the plants are poisonous – bulbs, leaves, flowers. This includes the cut flowers you buy from the florist as well as the garden plants. Snail and slug baits and rat and mice baits are another threat to pets. Try using different methods of controlling these pests. Certain mulches and fertilizers can cause serious sideeffects if ingested.
Gamer Dev Jam
After last year’s success, Gamer Dev Jam is back. It’s a weekend of fun filled exploration of tech as creative and artistic expression.
Last year the IntoIT Sapphire Coast community group brought you Gamer Dev Jam. It was a fantastic event during which 50+ participants enjoyed two days of fun and engaging activities centred around computer game creation. There were Virtual Reality games, Ableton electronic music controllers, NAO robots, and who could forget meeting Hex from Good Game.
This year it is on again October 7-8 at the Bega Valley Regional Learning Centre in Merimbula.
The event focuses on the creation of a game prototype and is loosely competitive. This does not mean that participants are required to know how to make a game. Games are made in teams and there are a variety of ways participants can contribute. Teams benefit greatly from having artists, writers, entrepreneurs, sound effects and music creators, and programmers all contributing. For novices and complete beginners there will be many mentors, with a range of skills on hand to help out and insure that there will be something to show at the end of the weekend.
If you have an idea for a game, some applicable skills that you would like to share or build on, are interested in the process of game creation, or just want to have a fun, get your tickets now at gdj17.eventbrite.com.au. For information contact Chris Bateman at chris@theloadedgamer.com
Ocean outfall working group needed
Council will be looking for 10 people to form part of a working group on the Merimbula ocean outfall project.
The group is seen as integral to effective community engagement during the EIS (Environmental Impact Statement) and concept design phases for the project which is likely to run to $35 million.
Council said the community working group would support the community engagement process and ultimately construction of the necessary infrastructure.
The group will be made up of a group of people representative of the impacted community.
The group will meet approximately five times, once design options are confirmed and they will meet together until they confirm a preferred design option.
They will work through a design and assessment criteria analysis process whereby they will actively participate in identifying the problem, prioritising issues, developing the assessment criteria and analysing the proposed project solutions developed by the project team by applying the assessment criteria.
Selection of the 10 working group members will be based on formal expressions of interest who will be chosen by a panel consisting of the infrastructure committee chair, general manager and manager water and sewerage services.
