Pambula was chasing a grand final berth against the Tathra Sea Eagles, but were foiled by the Eden Whalers 3-6-24 to 2-8-20.
The Panthers utilised good speed to command a lot of play, but couldn’t convert that forward motion into goals as the Whalers flooded their own goal square.
The second quarter was the most dominant by the Panthers with Romy Cook, Annie Gilbert and Lee Collimore all boasting strong games and contesting the ball well.
However, inaccuracy hurt the Panthers’ chances as they piled on eight behinds with a few kicks fading wide or drifting off target in the breeze.
Despite the lack of six-pointers, the Panthers were working well to contain Eden and led at the main break 12-4.
Unfortunately, due to the clustered nature of the play, the few occasions Eden flipped possession and cleared it forward, it meant they were running in open space.
And with an uncluttered goal square, Eden made few mistakes in finishing off their attacking run, getting three quick goals in the third quarter to regain the lead.
The Panthers did find two goals with one in the first quarter and another in the last quarter with Madi Whatman and Emmily Yeoman putting their names to it.
However, Eden’s surge in the third quarter had proved too damaging on the scoreboard as the Whalers were able to muscle up in defence and lock in the win to advance to the grand final.
