An icy southerly was decidedly advantageous toward the northern end, but not many teams were able to use the wind to press their attack.
The Eden Killer Whales were denied the chance to advance in a penalty shootout with the Bega Devils after earlier being disallowed a goal moments before the siren from an offside call.
The Eden side had scored in the first half against the Devils and looked like potential winners until a lapse in defence allowed the Devils to equalize in the second half.
However, Eden had done extremely well defensively before that, even stopping a dot shot.
In ladies play, the Wolumla Tigresses will advance to play Pambula in the preliminary final after downing the Tathra United side 2-0.
The Tigresses were awarded a direct free kick just outside the goal box late in the first half with captain Kirsty McPaul providing a neat chip for Chloe Grant to finish with an over-head bicycle kick to claim the lead.
A Wolumla corner in the second half saw Tathra succumb to an own-goal in a hustle for the ball to go down 2-0.
In the first grade men’s game, the Merimbula Grasshoppers were able to claim a 4-2 win after pressuring the Pambula Penguins from the outset.
The Penguins started with the wind at their backs, but the Grasshoppers were leading play to the fringes where their wingers made some good attacking runs.
The Merimbula side opened the scoring through a two-on-one attacking run at the Pambula keeper, which established momentum for the Grasshoppers on their home turf.
