In November the country will vote on same-sex marriage but you now have under a week left to make sure you’ve got a say in the poll.
We are urging people to make sure they’ve registered to vote so they can make their voice heard in November.
In the last Federal Election the Australian Electoral Commission estimates that more than 800,000 people who were eligible to vote, didn’t register to vote.
Regardless of whether you think this process is the correct one or not, it is the one we are going to have to deal with as a nation.
This poll will be the process in which Australians get their say and it would be a shame if a large portion of Australians either didn’t get a chance or missed their chance to have their voice heard.

You are eligible to enrol if _
- are an Australian citizen, or eligible British subject,
- aged 18 years and over, and
- have lived at your address for at least one month.
- If you are an Australian living overseas, you must have registered an international address to participate in the postal vote.
You can enrol or change your details at the Australian Electoral Commission website, www.aec.gov.au.
You need to register or complete your details before 6 pm on August 24.
Ballot papers are expected to arrive as early as September 12.
For your vote to be counted, you have until November 7 to post it back. A result would be returned by November 15.
A majority of votes in favour of same-sex marriage is not enough to legislate it.
If the postal survey finds more than half of participants in favour, then MPs would be granted a free vote on a same-sex marriage bill. It is expected such a bill would pass both houses of parliament and become law.
