Join members of the Bega Valley Home Hospice Group as they host the “Death Cafes” set up in three locations in the Bega Valley.
The cafes and conversation starters are to celebrate Dying to Know Day on Tuesday, August 8.
This is the fifth national Dying to Know Day, the brainchild of GroundSwell whose aim is to change the response to death from avoidance to deep engagement and social action.
Often the most difficult thing about death and grief is the awkwardness. People don’t know what to say or do, so they often do nothing.
Taking personal action by talking about death and dying has the power to change societal attitudes. This could snowball and change the experience of those who may feel alienated by their inability to talk about what is happening in their lives.
So let’s start the conversation over coffee, tea and cake in a safe space with empathetic facilitators in Bermagui, Bega and Tura Beach.
A donation towards cake and drink would be appreciated.
Death Cafes are being hosted this coming Tuesday, August 8 at the following locations:
St John’s Church hall, Church St, Bega from 10-11.30am; Tura Marrang Library, Tura Beach, 2.30-4pm; and the Bermagui CWA, 10 Corunna St, 10-11.30am.
Everyone is welcome.
