After first being invited to work backstage at the Official Miss Universe NSW Australia final, Rebecca Russell and Flip Ashcroft of Trendsetter Hair Studio were then flown to the grand final in Melbourne recently.
Then, after a huge day of styling hair at the Miss Universe Australia final in Melbourne, the very next day the two hairdressers were flown to Sydney to work backstage at the Miss Grand Australia final.
Rebecca and Flip were the only regional hairstylists at both events and said they now believe they will be called on by DNA Organics more often.
“It’s really exciting,” Rebecca said. “DNA wants to get into high end fashion weeks, both in Australia and overseas, and now we are first of their pick list.
“I think that a lot of doors will be opening for us now that we have made some really good connections in the industry.”
Flip said it was a huge honour just being invited to the events.
“It’s a big thing to be asked, we didn’t apply or anything, we were just recognised for the good stuff we’ve done.”
Rebecca said working backstage was a high pressure environment as they were only given 20 minutes to style each model.
“There was really strict timing, so there was no mucking around, but then again it was one of the most fun experiences.”
