Forty-two-year-old Dane Waites from Tura Beach, has been planning his run for over a decade, and was farewelled in Bega’s Littleton Gardens on Friday by Disabilities Trust clients, support workers and office staff.
He will set off on June 17, and will be escorted by a motorhome and a vehicle along the way.
Mr Waites has been running six marathons a week for the last year in preparation for his three month endurance run across the Nullarbor Plain to raise awareness for autism and mental health.
“I love Perth,” Mr Waites said on Thursday as he thanked the community for their support and donations.
The dedicated runner received a letter of thanks from new BeyondBlue chair Julia Gillard for his support.
Bega Valley Shire mayor Kristy McBain also wished Mr Waites well ahead of his epic endurance run.
