The group has maintained a solid performance schedule since its creation some six years ago by guitarist and vocalist Peter Baylor.
Ultrafox draws its inspiration from the legacy of the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelly and the Hot Club of France of the 1930s and 1940s.
Hot swing jazz , tender ballads, gypsy waltzes and a host of original material make up much of the bands ever expanding repertoire as well as obscure French and American tunes that are often overlooked.
The group’s sound is defined by the driving muscular swinging rhythm approach of the gypsy styled guitars laced with fiery solos.
Leader Peter Baylor on banjo and guitar will be accompanied by the rising talent of Jon Hunt on clarinet and saxophone, Jon Delaney on guitar and the powerful bass of Kain Borlase.
Ultrafox are really looking forward to returning to the Down South Jazz Club for their third visit. \
They will have copies of their recently recorded new CD “ Nocturnal Blues” for sale featuring the current members and some special guests .
This will be another great night of jazz/blues, so try not to miss it. Cost is $15 for jazz club members and $20 for visitors.
Table bookings can be made by ringing Aileen or Kevin on 64959853, by email on bookings@downsouthjazzclub.com, or will be available at the door.
The Club Sapphire bistro opens at 6pm and music will commence at 7.30pm. Meals can either be eaten in the bistro, eaten at leisure while listening to the music.
