On Wednesday, three students from Merimbula Public School, and a student from Tathra Public School, travelled to Bomaderry to represent the Far South Coast in the NSW PSSA South Coast Region Tennis selection trials.
Merimbula students Maka Ofati, Hollie Staight and Luka Cowles, together with Sunny Leung from Tathra, were selected in the Far South Coast team earlier in the year to compete against students from all over the Southern Region.
All the students participated in a round of pool matches with the top two from each pool going through to the next round.
Both Sunny and Luka played well in their three matches and proudly represented their schools in this form of tennis for the first time.
Luka, who was celebrating his eight birthday on the day, was one of the youngest childrem participating and Merimbula Public School staff are sure he will be involved in the competition for years to come.
Both boys showed great sportsmanship but unfortunately didn't progress.
Maka and Holly both had previous experience at these trials and fought hard to progress through to the second round.
They then stepped up their game and continued their winning ways through the next two rounds to finish as the number one ranked boy and girl in the region.
They will now head a five boy and five girl South Coast team that will travel to Newcastle in May to compete in the NSW PSSA State Tennis Titles.
