Unpredictable weather marked the end of the Merimbula District Netball Association’s Spring season last Thursday afternoon.
The young Net Set Go girls enjoyed their last game in warm but very windy conditions. But the youngsters pushed through displaying impressive skills and proving that the club has a very strong future.
The weather was too unpredictable for the Juniors game so it was decided to play indoors at Lumen Christi where the Swifts 34 defeated the Vixens 26. Trophy winners were Rebecca, Alyssa, Yasmin and Kate.
The Intermediates did not play last week but the coach and convenor Janet Kiely gave out awards to the very deserving girls. Indio Purcell won Most Improved as she plays any position she is given and always does her best. Kimberley de Jong won Most Respectful. Kimberley is always happy to play and no matter what happens she always has a smile. Bella Kiely won Sportswoman of the season. Bella umpires juniors, plays intermediates, umpires mixed and has umpired and scored for opens.
The Tathra Sea Eagles won the mixed competition after being undefeated all season and in the women’s which finished last Monday Nicky Tarlinton, a member of the winning team Maroon, won the Best and Fairest.
The opens teams celebrated a successful season at Dulcie’s in Merimbula on Thursday night, giving all the teams a chance to mingle in a social setting.
MDNA would like to thank all the umpires, coaches, convenors, and volunteers that help the club each and every week. A massive thank you to the amazing and dedicated committee that work tirelessly to bring a wonderful netball competition throughout the year.
A big thank you also goes out to Dulcies and Merimbula jewellers for their donations and support.
Registrations for the Autumn competition will start in late January.
