The Iron Stronghold is a newly opened palace of power.
The Pambula-based gym is focused on strength and conditioning, for fitness, weight loss and competitive purposes.
“We’re results oriented and we coach everyone who walks through the door,” says owner and founder Dan Dakis.
“Men and women, young and old, you could have never touched a weight in your life, but we can show you the right way to build muscle and get strong.”
The gym also caters to experienced lifters looking to build on their ability and technique.
There is no need to pay an additional fee for a coaching session, all members are coached during staffed hours. Dakis is a fully qualified coach and says everyone who walks through the door will be shown proper, safe techniques.
He has been a power-lifter himself for eight years and worked with some of Australia’s best-known coaches and lifters as well as coaching for the last six years.
He’s previously qualified to compete nationally and been a regular feature on the podium in Canberra competitions. “I’ve got true hands on experience both competing and coaching and a passion for the sport that drives me to share that love with anyone who wants to learn,” he said.
“I've been taught by some of the best powerlifting coaches in Australia and I’ve worked alongside some of the best lifters in the world.”
He’s also a very strong proponent for equality, with female lifters making around half the membership so far.
“There is a misconception that weightlifting is a manly thing and that is so far from the truth,” Dakis said. “About half our members are female and we can cater to anyone.”
The building has full disabled access and Dakis said there was no discrimination.
Iron Stronghold memberships provide 24-7 access for $90 a month and coaching is included. For anyone looking to give it a try, your first session is free.
