A former Year 6 teacher at Lumen Christi Catholic College stung by the Child Exploitation Internet Unit had his matter heard in Parramatta District Court on Tuesday, November 21.
Stephen Bonnett has pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to send indecent material to a person under 16, while still a a teacher at the school.
Police allege that Bonnett sent indecent material via his phone to a police officer posing as a 13-year-old girl between May 4 and June 17 last year during an online operation by detectives using the assumed identity.
After making a number of inquiries into the matter, detectives executed a search warrant at Bonnet’s Koma Circuit home in Bega in June 2015, seizing a number of electronic devices which were then forensically examined.
Later the same day police attended the school in Pambula Beach, arresting Bonnett.
Judge Andrew Colefax adjourned the matter to Parramatta on Friday, April 7, for mention, with Bonnet’s bail to continue.
The maximum penalty for the offence is seven years’ imprisonment.
