During the past week lots of cool water Arrow Squid have been taken from the Merimbula Fishing Platform together with our usual and better eating Southern Calamari Squid. Best results on the higher tides using orange and also green jigs. Offshore a few hapuka have been taken from the edge of the shelf and pods of whales continue their way southwards to Antarctica.
Encouraging news is reports of snapper from Green Cape and Mowarry heralding the spring migration back into our waters. Weather permitting, catches of morwong and snapper are likely all along the local reefs from Eden to Bermagui. Best time is always early morning and evening with baits ranging from squid heads to pilchards. Ocean Flathead are on the chew north of Tathra off Wapengo Lake.
Australian salmon are about but remain patchy on the local beaches and headlands, best reports come from Tura Beach.
Tailor and trevally are about in the Merimbula Top Lake and the estuaries are coming to life with some bream and dusky flathead.
