The Anglican church hall in the grounds of Christ Church, Pambula, has been officially named the B J Doran Hall, in memory of a local man who was known and loved by many. Barry Doran died in September 2015 and is survived by his wife and local artist, Audrey Taylor.
Mr Doran was active in local community organisations including the Merimbula and District Arts Group, Pambula Swimming Club, Pambula Surf Club, and Merimbula Garden Club.
He was also a faithful parishioner and masterminded the move and restoration of the church hall that now bears his name. The naming of the B J Doran Hall was announced by the rector, Reverend Lou Oakes, who said that “in the Bible, names are indicators of someone’s character. To have Barry’s name over the door of our hall will remind us of his tireless work in bringing the hall here, and his generous hospitality by preparing morning tea each Sunday. I pray that out hall will always be a place of welcome.”
The new sign for the hall was made by Scott Lipsham, woodworking teacher at Lumen Christi Catholic College.
