Two brothers on a mission from God are bringing the blues to Merimbula.
The Blues Brothers Rebooted show firstly features an hour of the finest soul, rhythm and blues classics by such artists as The Temptations, The Four Tops and Wilson Pickett. Then in the second half, Shane Peters (Jake) and Christian Clackson (Elwood) take to the stage for a tribute to the Blues Brothers.
As Clackson was born in 1984 he missed the release of the 1980s movie, but caught up with the famous musical crime comedy soon enough.
“As a child growing up it was always in my mother’s VHS collection so it was something I grew up watching through the remainder of the 80s and early 90s,” he said.
“God only knew we would be showcasing a tribute to the characters and the music associated with them in many years to come... I guess he had his own mission set out for us!”
Clackson and Peters have been good friends for over 15 years, growing musically together and coming from the same school of thinking and musical education, which plays a big part in their collaboration when producing shows and new ideas.
“If you saw myself and Shane together you would actually think we were brothers,” Clackson said.
“We get that a lot, I have a lot of love and respect for the man.”
The duo are long-time fans of the Blues Brothers and are always looking for innovative ideas for new shows with characters or vocalists they know and love.
“This one really set the tone, being the movie/music buffs we are in our personal lives,” Clackson said.
“Being a live show there is more then just the musicianship, there are so many other aspects you must consider when trying to portray characters such as the Blues Brothers as they have been loved and respected through the decades and the fans know when something is amiss.
“The theatrics of a show is very important as you try to authenticate a genre and really take people back to the time when they first saw the movie.
“The Blues Brothers were a live act for two years before the movie was released, so we really try to blend the theatrics visually of the live shows and the movie combined.”
Backed by a six-piece band with some of Sydney’s top musicians Clackson and Peters create an authentic tribute to the Blues Brothers.
