Bega Valley Shire Council has put on public notice a ‘Request for Proposal’ related to redevelopments within Merimbula’s CBD.
A notice appearing in national and local press has called for interested developers, consultants, investors and members of the community to submit their ideas for redeveloping key sites within the CBD.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Merimbula as it throws open the idea of redeveloping key sites, such as the old library, to Australia’s most innovative developers,” project officer, Ahmed Awil said.
Merimbula Chamber of Commerce president Natalie Godward said: “It is very encouraging that the council is focusing on Merimbula, such a positive step. The council’s commitment to community consultation on this is what we have asked for. We all hope that council’s initiative will bring great long term benefits for the community.”
Mr Awil said that submissions may include public private partnerships, joint ventures, tenders and others that meet the council’s measure.
“Increased interest in developing these sites means a better choice of developments suited to the community’s needs.
He said that all proposals would be required to satisfy the council’s strategic policy of asset maximisation and town revitalisation.
“This is not a tender or a procurement proposal; instead it is a form of trigger for future developments and council welcomes input from the community as well as large scale developers.
“All industry and community responses will be used as part of council’s decision- making process which will take into account other factors such as market trends and consumer activity.
“Proposals are welcome for the redevelopment of six sites within the CBD. These include the former library, council office and child care site; a former service station; and a number of car parks.
“A report of submissions will be delivered to council, wherein timelines and the potential for future developments will be discussed.
“Residents and business owners should be aware that development impacts on the CBD will be fully discussed with the community and Chamber of Commerce.”
Interested parties should read the full Request for Proposal on the council’s website before submitting proposals limited to six pages.
Submissions should not include financial or proprietary information.
