Merimbula’s gold star

Merimbula has been formally recognised by The Star Ratings Gold List as the leading Gold List town outside of Sydney for Best Overall Guest Experience.

The Star Rating Gold List combines millions of guest ratings across hundreds of websites to find the best hotels, motels, serviced apartments and caravan parks in Australia.

Around 15 per cent of Gold List winning accommodation providers in NSW came from the South Coast - ranging from Eden to just north of Wollongong – and more than 50 per cent of these were from Merimbula. 

There were a number of local accommodation providers which were also named in the top ten lists such as Lakeside Merimbula Holiday Units which was ranked as the eighth best Self Catered apartment in NSW.

Manager Matt Stroud it’s always nice to be recognised for all their hard work. 

“We’re not the newest or grandest complex in town but we get great reviews and we do our best to keep our customers happy,” he said. 

Albacore Apartments also did exceptionally well being named as the ninth best serviced apartment in the country. 

Cathy O’Connor has been managing Albacore Apartments since February 2016 and she said their aim at the moment is to keep up and build off the work of the previous managers. 

Nat Kirby from Merimbula Tourism said the constant stream of positive reviews can only help in encouraging people to visit the town. 

“Regional properties in NSW are dominating traveler rankings and it’s wonderful that Merimbula is offering great experiences that people are willing share their views online,” she said. 

“It’s an exciting time to be in the industry as we see an increase in international visitations as well as the domestic market. Now is the time for us all to hone our skills to ensure we have what we need to support tourism on the Sapphire Coast.”

Other local Gold List winners include: Merimbula Lake Apartments, Sails Luxury Apartments, Chapman Court Holiday Units and Baywatch Apartments.
