Residents in a central Bega Valley region are expected to experience multiple electricity outages over the coming fortnight.
According to data from its website, Essential Energy has planned nine supply interruptions for the 11 days between April 26 and May 6 in the region that covers Frogs Hollow, Kanoona and Toothdale.
An estimated total of 231 Essential Energy customers will be affected by these outages.
While some of the power outs will be short, lasting only 30 minutes, others will range from five to seven hours.
As some works scheduled on different days overlap the same regions, some households will experience multiple supply outages over successive days.
For instance, an area south-east of Frogs Hollow around the Candelo-Wolumla Rd will experience about six hours of no power each day from May 3-5.
Resident of this area Ian Gordon, a retired principal from Wolumla Public School, has a mild disability and was concerned about being without power for three days.
“This means that people with disabilities and/or mobility problems will be without computers, televisions, cooking facilities or electric heating/cooling for the whole day,” he said.
“While I only have some understanding of what isolation can mean, I know a lot of folk will suffer.
“For three days I’ll be without any kind of entertainment or food.”
Essential Energy’s southern regional manager, Steven Ilitch, said the power outage over these three days would provide an accredited service provider with safe access to the local electricity network to carry out upgrade works.
“Essential Energy has provided advanced notice to all customers affected by a planned power outage so they can make alternate arrangements,” he said.
The reasons for the other power outages included upgrading the electricity network at Kanoona as well as maintenance and reconfiguration of the network for parts of south Wolumla, Frogs Hollow and Toothdale.
