Merimbula Water Dragons have returned from a two-day Albury regatta with a trophy after competing in a gruelling 2km race which consists of four laps of a 500m course with boats starting at 15 second intervals.
The team was delighted to receive a 3rd place in an exciting race, which included a complete capsize of another boat full of extremely fit younger men.
Thanks to coach Chris Cheung, who regularly programs back to back 2km distances into the Wednesday night training sessions, the team was fit enough to perform under race conditions.
Merimbula Water Dragons qualified for most other finals, and finished 4th every time. Given that there was no separate age category and the competition consisted of the Navy, school groups and much younger teams from Melbourne, all the Merimbula paddlers were very pleased with the results.
There’s no paddling over Easter as a number of members are representing NSW at the National Championships, Adelaide. For information on paddling sessions contact Mary Balmain on 0448825785
