For the first time in almost a decade a Pambula team has made it to the Bega Valley softball A grade grand final.
The Valley Vixens were undefeated for the first half of the season however some strong opposition towards the end of the season saw the women drop to second.
On Saturday, March 19, in the preliminary final the Valley Vixens went head to head with the defending champions the Wolumla Warriors.
The Warriors got off to a great start scoring two runs in the first innings.
For the next couple of innings the Vixens stayed strong in the field but were unable to come through with the bats. It wasn’t until the third innings that the women got their first runner on base, and their first run on the board.
Some strong batting and solid base running helped the Vixens to sneak in front making it 3-2 going into the sixth innings.
However, the Warriors came out swinging and took the lead 4-3.
With two out and still behind by one run the Vixens managed a great rally to score three runs putting them ahead 6-4 as they went into the final innings.
Fabulous pitching by Kaye Jensen held the Warriors off for their final turn at bat meaning the Vixens won and could advance to the grand final on Saturday, April 9.
The Warriors will have another chance to make the final when they play Bega Irrigation on Saturday, April 2.
