Home – is it a place, space or state of mind?
It is also the title of a unique new work created by Gabrielle Rose from Fling Physical Theatre in collaboration with composer/performer David Hewitt, theatre maker and choir leader Dan Scollay and Bega Valley songwriter/musician Heath Cullen.
The work features a dynamic cast of community performers ranging in ages from 14-80 years old.
The cast joined the project through an open audition held last year and together they have been working collaboratively to devise scenes that paint an eclectic picture of home life.
Research behind this show has come from interviews with community members as well as from tapping into life experiences of the cast and creative team.
Home also features members of the Bega and Bermagui choirs, under the leadership of Ms Scollay.
“It has been wonderful to have the choir on board, they bring a new dimension to the work,” Ms Rose said.
Mr Cullen is also performing live in the show and has written a new song specifically for the work.
In 2015, Mr Cullen conducted a songwriting workshop with members of the community based on the theme of home, creating the new song from this workshop.
Home has been in development since mid-2015 and has been supported by the Regional Arts Fund, Arts NSW, Australia Council and South East Arts through the Expand Program.
Featuring original music, interesting characters and a curious insight into aspects of life, Home is a touching performance you won’t want to miss.
The show will be touring around the Bega Valley with performances in:
- Eden Marine High School – March 11;
- Merimbula Public School – March 12-13;
- Bermagui Community Centre – March 17-18; and
- Mumbulla School Hall, Bega – March 19-20.

Since its founding in 2001, Fling has created many original performances and toured broadly to local venues, outdoor sites, schools as well as to theatres in Wollongong and Parramatta Sydney and in 2012 to the Singapore International Youth Festival.
The mission of the company is to inspire people through original contemporary performance. Its programs support the healthy development of regional young people, building confidence and the skill of storytelling through performance.
