Sunday, March 6 is Clean Up Australia Day, a day in which hundreds of thousands of Australians get stuck in and clean up their local environment.
All of our local schools are getting involved in the day and will be doing their part on the official Schools Clean Up Day on Friday, March 4.
Throughout the day students from Merimbula Public school will be seen with their rubber gloves as they scour Merimbula Lake and Spencer Park for rubbish.
Pambula Public School will be out cleaning the streets of Pambula. Each class has been assigned an area which stretches to as far as Pambula Hospital.
Environmental students and primary kids at Lumen Christi will also be joining the cause as they pick up rubbish in and around the school.
There are also a number of public clean up events organised where people are invited to join.
On Friday from 3pm until 4.30pm Love Our Lakes will be cleaning up the Merimbula Boardwalk. Anyone interested in joining in can meet at the Fisheries office at the end of the boardwalk.
Merimbula McDonalds has also organised a two hour clean up and will be meeting at the store on Sunday, at 1.30pm.
There will also be a two hour clean up at Tura Beach which has been organised by Vicki Bond.
Community members are invited to meet at the car park at the bottom of Tura Beach Drive at 10am on Sunday. Email vickijb@live.com.
