The film Understorey outlines the South East forest campaign.

Made by Bega Valley’s Dave Gallan, it combines archival stills and video, original wildlife footage and recent reflections from key environmental activists.
These activists include Jim Collins, Jack Miller, Bob Brown, Heather Meek and Roland Breckwoldt.
Understorey will be shown at the Picture Show Man Twin Cinema, Merimbula from 5.25pm on March 3-6, 8 and 9 and at the Narooma Kinema from 7pm on March 17-23.
Some locals may recognise themselves in the various crowd sequences that appear throughout the film.
The campaign for national parks in the South-East forests reverberated through Bega Valley communities in the 1980s and 1990s.
The anti-woodchip rally and march in Bega in January 1989 was attended by about 550 people and remains one of the biggest demonstrations ever seen on the town’s streets.
